| BIBD DONATIONS - MOSQUES AND MINISTRY OF HEALTH |

January 19, 2010 – Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam Berhad (BIBD) through its Syariah Division today handed over a donation of B$500,000 “Derma Khairat and Amal Jariah” for the construction of Kg Manggis and Kg Madang Mosque and another B$100,000 for the needs, facilities and equipments of patients using the “Dana Maslahat Umum”.
The hand over was held on the 9th floor of the BIBD Headquarters Building in Bandar Seri Begawan.
Handing over the mock cheques was the Chairman of BIBD Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdullah bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, who is also the Minister of Development.
On hand to receive the cheque was the Minister of Communications Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong who is also the Chairman of the construction of the Kg Manggis and Kg Madang Mosque
On hand to receive the mock cheque on behalf of the Ministry of Health was Dr Hajah Intan Binti Hj Salleh, Acting Permanent Secretary. Also in attendance at the ceremony were the Deputy Chairman of BIBD, Minister of Energy Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Dewa Major General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Awang Haji Mohammad bin Haji Daud, Acting Managing Director of BIBD Javed Ahmad and the Heads of Departments of BIBD.
Ministry of Health will be using the $100,000 to purchase a saloon type Disabled Hand Control Vehicle which costs $50,000 to be used to train the disabled at the Working Recovery Unit in RIPAS Hospital on how to drive.
With the donation money, the Ministry of Health will be acquiring a Reprocessor Machine which costs $35,000 to replace existing machines that are currently encountering problems. On top of that, MOH will also be purchasing hearing aids for patients who need them. Each unit costs about $880 to $950, and with the remaining amount, BIBD will be able to help in acquiring 15 to 17 units of hearing aids.
