Socially responsible institutions are a part of the fabric of society.

At BIBD, we are proud to be a national leader in corporate social responsibility, with a variety of innovative programs.

Areas of focus

We typically focus our efforts on three areas: Education, Entrepreneurship and Community.

Education projects nurture future leaders and thoughtful citizens. As a bank, we have particular expertise in financial knowledge and skills. We can help participants with financial planning, creating a business plan, leadership and teambuilding.

Entrepreneurship projects empower individuals and small businesses. Our entrepreneurship awards, micro-grant schemes and micro-credit schemes help to identity and to groom local talent.

Community projects preserve our tradition and way of life, helping Bruneians help each other and the environment. These are the projects with the widest social impact and for which we have received a lot of love from the Bruneian public.

Recent projects

We have undertaken a number of creative projects within our areas of focus. Here are three recent examples.

ALAF BIBD is our latest initiative to support primary education—in this case for schoolchildren from underprivileged families, including single mothers. For the 2012 school year, about 100 children aged five to twelve years each received BND 100 in vouchers for school uniforms, books, stationery sets and other study materials.

Ar Rahnu is an Islamic pawn brokering service offering peace of mind and financial independence to under-privileged members of society of any ethnicity or religion. By leaving gold and precious stones as collateral, customers can receive an interest-free loan for a variety of purposes: to pay medical or school fees, to repay debts or to start a small business. This is the only microfinance programme of its kind in Brunei.

Program Sirah Amal BIBD is an annual Ramadan initiative to distribute food, basic necessities and cash in different areas of the country. It is also an opportunity for staff engagement, since BIBD colleagues contribute their own funds and time to bring the gift packages to deserving families.
